Controls and Function:

1) Main ON-OFF Switch with red warning light.

2) Focusing Control.

3) Image Plane Compensator for slides of varying thickness.

4) Lens Change Control. A 14.8x magnification lens is standard. The lens block has space for 2 additional lenses which are easily changed by the user once the screen is removed. The following lenses are presently available: 20x, 24x, 27x, 30x, 36x, 42x, 48x, 56x and 72x.

5) Lower Filter Control. With this switch the Lower Polarization Filter is positioned either "Parallel" into the optical path or "Neutral" out of the optical path by means of a motorized drive.

6) Upper Filter Control: By means of this switch the following positions can be set electrically for geological work:

A. Polarization Filter, intersected to Lower Filter.

B. Position for optional Filter-Combination (560 nm), to enable the determination of Sense of Shear.

C. Neutral position without filter. The filter configuration can be changed and adapted on site for differing applications.

7) Manual Lever for widening the Intersected Positon of Upper Pol-Filter by about 12 Degrees.

8) Revolving Slide Holder, can be rotated clockwise and anti-clockwise 270 Deg. around its center axis. The slider holder accepts up to nine Thin Sections simultaneously for rapid comparative examination. Also normal photographic slides of microfiche 105 x 148 mm may be used. The optional Upper Glassplate is needed for microfiche and acetate peels.

9) Infinitely variable Brightness Control. Depending on the length of viewing time or ambient lighting conditions the image brightness can be set to suit the individual kinetic energy requirements of the moment.

10) Viewing Screen with Hand Rail for easy Removal:

Standard Screen, 315 mm high x 390 mm wide Plastic, neutral grey tone, anti-reflect surface.

PETROSCOPE® can be used as wall-projector with viewing screen removed. Depending on the Projected slide (bright-dark) images up to 4 m wide can be achieved.

11) Light-Hood, two-position setting when needed. Blocks off with ambient light from screen.

12) Lamp Housing, swings out laterally for easy lamp change. The lamp is a Halide-Xenon 250 Watt Lamp, lamp life is approximately. 250 hours.

13) Main Power Connection with Transformer for settings 110-130-220-240 V. AC 50/60 Hz., Power-Consumption max. 400 Watt. 2.5 m Power Cable.
